The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has officially released the SSC JE Recruitment 2026 Notification on September 2, 2026. This year, the recruitment drive includes 1,748 tentative vacancies for Junior Engineer posts and related positions across various departments and organisations of the Government of India.
The online application process has also started. Eligible candidates can submit their applications from September 2 to September 22, 2026, while the last date for online fee payment is September 23, 2026. According to the official notification, SSC has announced 1,748 tentative vacancies under the 2026 recruitment cycle. The Commission has clarified that the vacancies are tentative and the final, post-wise and category-wise vacancy details will be published separately on the SSC website. SSC does not collect state-wise or zone-wise vacancies itself.
The recruitment covers posts in several government organisations, including departments and offices such as the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), Central Public Works Department (CPWD), Central Water Commission, Department of Telecommunications, National Technical Research Organisation and India Meteorological Department, among others.
One important point for candidates is that BRO posts have additional physical and medical requirements. Candidates applying for Junior Engineer posts in BRO should check these standards carefully before giving their post preferences. The notification also states that only male candidates are eligible for the JE posts in BRO.

The Department of Telecommunications JE (Telecom) post requires a Bachelor’s degree in relevant engineering/technology disciplines such as Electrical, Electronics, Electrical Communications, Computer Science, Telecommunications, Information Technology or Instrumentation.
For Scientific Assistant in IMD, candidates can qualify through a bachelor’s degree with Physics as one of the subjects or through specified Computer Science, Computer Applications, Electronics, Electronics & Communication, Information Technology and related engineering qualifications.
Candidates whose qualifying examination result had already been declared by the prescribed cut-off date can also be considered eligible, provided they can produce documentary proof. Merely having the result under processing is not sufficient.
SSC JE Age Limit 2026
The crucial date for determining age is August 1, 2026.
For posts having an upper age limit of 30 years, candidates must have been born between August 2, 1996 and August 1, 2008.
For posts having an upper age limit of 32 years, candidates must have been born between August 2, 1994 and August 1, 2008.
Age relaxation is available to eligible reserved and other specified categories. SC/ST candidates receive 5 years of relaxation, while OBC candidates receive 3 years. Additional relaxation is prescribed for eligible PwBD and Ex-Servicemen candidates.
SSC JE Apply Online 2026
Candidates must first complete One-Time Registration (OTR) on the new SSC website before filling out the application form. An OTR created on the old SSC website will not be functional on the new website.
The application can be submitted online through the SSC website or the mySSC mobile application. The application window is open from September 2 to September 22, 2026, up to 11:00 PM. The fee can be paid until September 23, 2026, up to 11:00 PM.
The application fee is ₹100. Women candidates and candidates belonging to SC, ST, PwBD and Ex-Servicemen categories are exempted from paying the fee.
Candidates should avoid waiting for the final day to submit the form. SSC itself has advised applicants to apply well before the deadline because heavy traffic on the website can cause login or submission problems.

The SSC JE Exam Date 2026 has been announced on a tentative basis.

SSC has clearly stated that the examination schedule is tentative and any changes will be communicated through the Commission’s website.
